Planning Your Weekend in Rome

There are many beautiful locations you can visit in this world. But there is an undeniable and very special charm about the city of Rome in Italy. This amazing place combines modern life with timeless and elegant structures, and all these qualities turn it into one of the most popular tourist attractions out there.

In this article we are going to give you the 101 of how you should plan your weekend vacation in Rome. The best places to visit, the things to do and not to do, and also some general traveling tips that will make your stay much more pleasant.

The first thing you should do is figure out when is the best time to visit Rome depending on the kind of activities you enjoy the most. If you don't mind visiting when there are also another thousand people trying to see the most popular landmarks, then it's your choice, but we really suggest you visit in months that are not so crowded, and this way you will have a much more relaxing experience, so basically just try to avoid June because of the crowds and August because they celebrate a holiday and many important restaurants and general business will be closed.

As far as safety, there is relatively no need to be afraid of any serious crime problems in Rome at most tourist locations, but you could be victim of pick pockets that are scattered all over different places that travelers are usually going to visit. We suggest you don't keep your wallet in your exposed pockets and maybe get a money belt to keep under your clothes for safety. It's not very likely that you will be targeted by any pick pockets if you are not walking around with a backpack or a wallet that sticks out of your back pocket.

You should also be careful when changing currency, be cautious with money changers at airports and other locations that will charge you high percentages for your conversion, and if you find someone who is chasing you around to provide that service, it's best to politely tell them you do not require their help. I would also take into consideration the use of proper transportation. Do not get into unmarked taxi cabs. They will overcharge you most of the time, so it's best to save yourself the trouble and use one that has a meter.

Now that we have covered the basics of your trip to Rome, I think we can start talking about the best locations to visit, and the ones that you can't possibly miss out on. The first place that we need to mention has got to be the Colosseum. When you see this place from the outside, you will be immediately transported back to the time when gladiators fought and emperors ruled the land. Going inside is also recommended as there is much to appreciate both indoors and outdoors at this amazing construction.

Then you have Vatican Museum with the famous Sistine Chapel, which to be honest is very difficult to get into. There are always quite a few people waiting in line trying to get in, but once you make it inside you will realize it was truly worth the wait. The Roman forum, St. Peter's Basilica, the Borghese Gardens and gallery and Campo dei Fiori, one of the oldest markets in the entire city of Rome, are all just as important to visit in your trip, but the first two we mentioned should definitely be the top priority on your list.
